Veteran LB Jon Bostic can be a solid addition to the Redskins defense

It would be too much to ask the Washington Redskins to sign someone with the skill level of Reuben Foster, who was recently lost for the season with a torn ACL — at 6’1″ and 230 pounds, Foster contains a mixture of quickness and size that doesn’t come often in the NFL.

Jon Bostic is not Reuben Foster. He doesn’t have the stature or agility to match Foster, though his lack of off-the-field drama is sure to make him more likable to fans than the former ever was.

That doesn’t mean that Bostic can’t be a difference maker for the Redskins, though. They currently have a massive hole in the middle of the defense, and he may be just what they need to stop the bleeding.

Bostic is 28-years-old and has been with five different teams in six years. On the plus side, his longevity has kept him in the NFL past the league average, and his 30 games over the past two seasons are no small feat. At the very least, he can be a body to fill out a roster and hopefully provide a position battle between Mason Foster and Shaun Dion Hamilton, possibly pushing them to be better. At best, Bostic can be a solid run defender and tackler, helping to shore up Washington’s defense on the inside.

Whether you knew his name before Wednesday or not is beside the point — Bostic is who the Redskins chose to help keep their defense afloat for the time being. Let’s just hope that this decision goes along the lines of the recent successes the front office has had and doesn’t resemble the previous 10-plus years.
