Veteran known for pro-Trump displays dies after vicious assault outside his home

  • Army veteran Kerry Sheron, 69, died after being brutally beaten outside his home in Escondido, California , which was decorated with patriotic and President Donald Trump -themed items.
  • Thomas Caleb Butler, 32, was arrested the same day as the May 20 assault and initially charged with attempted murder , cruelty to an elder, and other offenses, to which he pleaded not guilty.
  • Prosecutors described the attack as unprovoked, involving a single punch to Sheron's jaw followed by subsequent hits to his head.
  • Sheron's wife reported that they had previously experienced harassment and threats due to their home's decorations, though no prior incidents turned violent.
  • The San Diego District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case and will announce whether an additional murder charge will be filed against Butler during his June 3 court hearing.
