Veteran Kevin Moran calls it a day with the Waterford hurlers

It is the end of an era for Waterford hurling fans as Kevin Moran has confirmed his intercounty retirement.

Moran, 34, walks away having given 16 years service at senior county level, and in that time he won two Munster titles with the Deise and reached three All-Ireland finals, losing to Kilkenny (2008), Galway (2017, when he was captain) and to Limerick (2020).

He has won two AllStar awards (2012, 2017) and the tireless midfielder, who made his Waterford debut in 2006, did captain his county to the League title in 2015, beating Cork in the final.

At club level he has won two Munster titles with De La Salle.

"After 16 years I have decided the time is right for me to step away from inter county hurling and to concentrate on putting more time into my club DLS," he stated.

"I would like to thank everyone that has been involved with all the Waterford senior hurling teams during my time on county panels.

"In particular I would like to thank the Waterford fans, my club DLS, family, friends and my wife Aoife for being so supportive through all the good and bad days.

"I would really like to wish all the very best to Liam Cahill and all the Waterford backroom and panel for next year.

"Up the Deise."
