Veteran K Robbie Gould’s favorite place to play is in Green Bay

Veteran kicker Robbie Gould doesn’t know what his future holds with the San Francisco 49ers, who gave him the franchise tag this offseason, but he is certain about his favorite place to play in the NFL.

It’s not Levi’s Stadium or Soldier Field. It’s actually Lambeau Field.

“My favorite place is Green Bay,” Gould said, via Cam Inman of The Mercury News. “There’s something to the history of going there, and walking through the single-file tunnel. I’ve played really well there. It’s a comfort thing.”

In 22 career games against the Packers, Gould made 35 of 38 field goal attempts. At Lambeau Field, he’s made 20 of 21 field goals and all 21 extra point attempts.

Last season, Gould made three field goals over 40 yards and all three extra points in the 49ers’ Monday night loss to the Packers at Lambeau Field. In the playoffs following the 2016 season, Gould connected on two field goals and an extra point, accounting for seven of the Giants’ 13 points in the wildcard defeat at Lambeau Field.

No wonder he’s so comfortable on The Frozen Tundra. His only miss is a 49-yarder back in 2011.

Gould, who spent 11 seasons with the Chicago Bears, skipped the 49ers’ offseason workout program and hasn’t signed his franchise tender, leaving him with an uncertain future in San Francisco.

Over the last three seasons, Gould has made 82 of 85 field goal attempts. He now ranks second in NFL history in career field goal percentage.

Gould is looking for a long-term deal from the 49ers. He’s also expressed a desire to play closer to his family in Chicago.

It’s a highly unlikely scenario with several moving parts, but if Gould holds out and Mason Crosby and Sam Ficken both struggle during training camp, would Packers GM Brian Gutekunst express any interest in acquiring the veteran kicker who loves Lambeau Field?
