Vet's warning over dangerous problem affecting dogs on walks 'every day'

A vet wants to warn dog owners about the dangers grass seed can pose when taking their pets out for a walk.

Dr Scott Miller appeared on This Morning today to chat to Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary.

But before his segment came to an end he was keen to tell viewers about a problem he is seeing "every day" in his veterinary practice involving grass seed.

Due to the time of year and the recent warm weather, Dr Scott said grass seed is "everywhere" and "in every single suburb of the UK."

The seeds have sharp and pointy ends and can easily get "lodged in between a dog's toes" as well as "in ears and up noses."

Dr Scott said: "Please please all dog owners look out for these things. Examine your dog after you take them for a walk because you can pull them out easily.

"If not that will cause a lot of pain for your dog and a lot of pain for your wallet."

Dr Scott described grass seed as "little wheat sized horns" which he has spent the last few weeks plucking out of different dogs at his practice.

In a previous interview on the show last week, the TV vet said: "Grass seeds are absolutely everywhere so please check between the toes and in the ears of your little pooch, because grass seeds are everywhere and we’re seeing them every day.

"We’ve even got a tally on the wall behind me with how many we’re seeing so far and the numbers are sky rocketing.”
