Vet knits dog new EARS after they're torn off in attack - but he's 'not happy with them'

A dog who lost both his ears in an attack when he became stuck in a fence is proudly showing off his new crocheted look.

Willy was attacked by two other dogs when he could not move and suffered serious head injuries.

Vets were forced to amputate them both as a result.

When he was taken to the Sacramento Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA), staff were concerned he would not be adopted because of his look.

To aid the two-year-old’s chances of finding a forever home, registered veterinary technician John Holmquist knitted him a hat, reported WBAL.

John said: “In about an hour or two, just whipped him up something after some measurements and the next day just giggled to myself as I put it over his head.

“He wasn't really happy with the hat, but he's a happy boy, so he was good enough to take a bunch of pictures for us."

The dog’s pictures were posted on the shelter’s Facebook page and soon attracted thousands of likes.

The new look worked and Willy was soon adopted by a new family.

John added: “I was really worried a bunch of people were going to see all of his extensive scarring and be really worried about his health or look over him or worry he'd be dog aggressive. I worried that he wouldn't get a good home

“As soon as he had that hat on everyone was interested. I'm glad he got adopted."

The family who adopted the pooch said: “Willy Wonka really caught my eye on Sacramento SPCA's live they do every Wednesday on Facebook.

“His story, and knowing nobody had gone to adopt him yet, really broke my heart, this poor baby was patiently waiting for someone to fall in love with him and his substitute ears.

“His demeanour really inspired me that even when you get knocked down, continue to be yourself!

“Thank you Sacramento SPCA for bringing him into our life and for taking care of all the wonderful dogs that come to you.”

Meanwhile, seven 'butt ugly' dogs are battling it out to be crowned the UK's 'most hideous' pet.

The not-so-adorable pooch who claims the title will win a makeover with a before and after photoshoot to show off their remarkable transformation.

The competition is being organised by a photography company who want to celebrate pets who are visually challenging, as they claim that "every dog is beautiful in the eyes of their owners".
