Vet issues warning to dog owners who walk their pet in woodland

Dog owners have been urged to be cautious if they walk their pet in woodland or heartland.

The first cases of seasonal canine illness have been reported in the UK - as Birmingham Live reports.

A vet surgery took to social media to issue a warning about the disease to pet owners across the country.

Dowding Vets wrote: "Seasonal Canine Illness ALERT!!!

"We have just seen our first case of seasonal canine illness.

"Take care when walking around the Daneshill Lakes area; but remember your dog could be at risk walking in ANY woodland area.

"We advise that until the weather changes to cooler temperatures avoid walking your dog in woodland or heathland."

The vets said dogs showing symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea and lethargy could have the illness.

Symptoms usually develop within 72 hours and pet owners are advised to perform regular checks on their pets.

The post said: "After walks check between toes, in armpits and groin area, and around ears for orange/red coloured mites."

The surgery urged dog owners to get in touch with a vet if their dog is showing symptoms.
