'Very tinpot' - Newcastle United fans deliver mixed reaction to potential new kit deal

Newcastle United players and fans could be sporting brand new threads next season with the club rumoured to be in the process of securing a new kit supplier.

It has been reported that Castore will take over from Puma as United's kit manufacturer next season in a deal worth £5 million per year, although there has been no official confirmation from any source.

The British company already provides kit to the likes of Glasgow Rangers and tennis star Andy Murray, and could be set to enter the Premier League market with the Magpies.

Lee Ryder on if the takeover will ever be back on the table

Castore markets itself as a high-end, luxury sports kit manufacturer but has a low presence in football having been established just five years ago.

Newcastle signed a one-year extension with Puma in the summer to see them supply kits for the current campaign.

Fans on Twitter were divided over the rumours.

Some supporters believed a deal with Castore would be underwhelming, while others expressed indifference as long as the kits look and feel good.

@TheLittleIcon : As long as the tops are smart and good quality I couldn't care less who makes them.

@iainmcc22 : Remember when Adidas used to want us?

@javi_138 : Well, there go my Kappa kit dreams.

@MagpieKit : Was hoping we’d get Umbro.

@J_Mck_89 : Never heard of it. NUFC and Adidas belong together.

@The_21st_Doctor : Seems like another cheap Ashley deal. Poor quality, no great income for the club... Depressing.

@NorthumbrianM : Better than Puma imo.

@NotSoLocalHero : Tinpot, very tinpot.

@GrahamSpeight : Rather have a big name sponsor like Nike, Adidas or Under Armour.

@MatKlik : If a kit looks good does it matter really who makes it?
