As the sun rose on a new Anzac Day, families across the Hunter stood united at the end of their driveways in remembrance of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
After weeks of separation due to COVID-19 social distancing measures, there was a moment of togetherness.
It was a chance to remember what we had been through as a country and to consider where we were going.

When a moment's reflection had passed, residents retreated back into their homes and exchanged images of the shared experience online.
"Most of the neighbours here were out," Jenny Macaulay of Kilaben Bay said on the Newcastle Herald's Facebook page.
"Great to hear a young musician playing the Last Post. Very special."

"[It was] the most emotional Anzac ceremony I have ever experienced, so beautiful," Ellalong's Fiona Lowe Mills added.
Stroud's Angela Hutchins said the local pub had played the dawn service over their speaker system so the town could hear it.
"Most of our neighbours were out on the street with candles," she said.
