'Very exciting' - Ian Wright praises debut of Leeds United summer signing in opening day Wolves win

Ian Wright says Brenden Aaronson is a player that Leeds United supporters will immediately take to. Aaronson made his first competitive appearance for the Whites on Saturday as he played 84 minutes of the 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 21-year-old produced an impressive performance on his debut for Leeds and played a big part in both goals. First, his pressing high up the field forced Rayan Ait Nouri into losing possession inside his own box for the opener.

He was then in the right place for Leeds’ winner as Patrick Bamford’s cross was bundled into the net, though that goal has since been taken off Aaronson and instead awarded as an own goal for Ait Nouri. Speaking on Match of the Day, Wright was full of praise for the performance of Aaronson and cannot believe he has not been credited with the winner.

He said: “When you think of Leeds, you think of intensity, pace and all the things that come with how they play, the energy.

“He is everything, he encompasses everything what Leeds are about. I think he is going to be probably one of those players that Leeds fans really take to very quickly.

“He is so energised, so quick, he is so busy around people. It’s his pace, his quickness with the ball, look at him go, look at him go here. Fantastic pace he has got.

“He does well here to help them set up the first goal. He played under Jesse Marsch at Salzburg, he got 10 goals and six assists. He’s very exciting and very quick.

“This is the goal. I can’t see how this isn’t his goal, why isn’t that his? I think he gets a touch, I can’t see how they’ve differentiated there.”
