'Very drunk' man smashed window of St Ann's house after drinking eight cans of lager

A homeless man must pay £100 to Nottingham City Homes for smashing a house window after drinking eight cans of strong lager.

City magistrates heard that Terence Pickering caused the damage by hurling a brick at a relative's house on Aster Road, St Ann's.

Laura Coffey, mitigating, said that Pickering had made a loan to the relative and went on: "He wanted his money back."

She said that 44-year-old Pickering had property in the house and had managed to stay out of bother since being freed from prison in November.

Arnold teenager described himself as a 'Nazi' but not a 'white supremacist', court hears

"Considering his chaotic lifestyle, there have been no offences although he has nowhere to go to. It is quite achievement that he has stayed out of trouble," added Miss Coffey.

Pickering admitted causing damage to the home on March 15. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and banned from visiting the house for two years. The £100 compensation will go towards house repairs.

Magistrate Simon Robinson told him: "This was an unpleasant incident. Drinking this much lager doesn't do you much good. Obviously you were very drunk at this time as you admitted."

Ben Payne, prosecuting, said that Pickering was upstairs with a relative who shouted out when there was a scuffle.

Pickering was pushed out of the front door which was locked to prevent him getting back in. The relative shouted to him to go away.

Mr Payne added: "The defendant picked up a brick from the front of the house and threw it hard, causing the outer pane of a double glazed glass window to smash.

"He had eight cans of strong lager and could not recall much of the incident but admitted that he smashed the window because he was angry, which was why he picked up the stone."
