'Very doubtful' - Nottingham Forest fans split on future of winger as deal winds down

Nottingham Forest fans have been having their say on the future of winger Sammy Ameobi, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old joined the club as a free agent in 2019, making 77 appearances in the Garibaldi and netting 14 goals.

Asked if he would like to stay at Forest, Ameobi said: “Yeah, absolutely.

“I’ve always said, since I joined here, I’ve been made to feel really welcome.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here ever so much. Long may it continue, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Garibaldi Red: Should Sammy Ameobi get a new Forest contract?

“My agent’s doing all that behind the scenes. I don’t really like to get involved too much. I trust him enough and know he wants the best for me.

“We’ll have to wait and see.”

Here's a look at what Reds fans have said on our Facebook page.

Simon Lomax: Undoubtedly a good player on his day.. tricky with good feet, needs to make an impact in most games though not some games... and practice his shooting

Ty Yaqub: I think he is been one if our better players and yes if he wants to stay.

Sue Chambers: When he is not on the pitch we miss him. I for one would keep him. He wants to be at Forest not sure about some

Christophe Frost: Get rid of players who haven’t done enough this season or don’t play enough and keep our young players who are there or on loan and coming back, and keep (Sammy).

Stephen Hunt: We'll have no money to spend without selling so little chance of replacing him with better so keep.

Chris Owen: Yes, arguably our best player (when fit) this season & far less culpable for our current situation than most. Even did ok at the back end of last season when we capitulated. Didn't expect much at all when we signed him but fair play to him, decent for me.

Gary Macken: Ask yourself the question. If we release him who is going so sign him? Championship club? Possibly. Top half championship club? Very doubtful. There's your answer. He is not good enough or consistent enough to help challenge for promotion. Therefore for me it's a no. Let him go.

Kieron Farrell: People are nuts if they think he's a good player. 1 in 10 don't make him a good player we need better than him if were to sustain a challenge next year.

Steve Barnes: Yes I would keep, as down the left he actually helps the LB more than anyone else, apart from maybe Lolley when he's played that side. He also offers more of a threat than Freeman or krovinovic in the wide left position.
