'Vertonghen's long-term replacement, please no' - Spurs fans split on talk of £40m defender move

Spurs are believed to be ready to make a £40million summer move for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake, according to reports.

Joining the Cherries on loan at the start of the 2016/17 season, Eddie Howe's side signed the Dutchman on a permanent deal 12 months later after Chelsea had recalled him to Stamford Bridge midway through his loan spell after catching the eye.

Ake has since become a key part of the Bournemouth team and reports have suggested that Chelsea and Manchester United are both keen on signing him this summer.

The Sun now claim that Spurs are also interested in the versatile defender and are in fact plotting a £40million move.

It's an area Mauricio Pochettino could well look to strengthen before the August transfer deadline as there are major doubts regarding Toby Alderweireld's long-term future in the capital.

The 30-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the 2019/20 season, can leave for £25million before the final two weeks of the summer transfer window due to a clause in his contract.

Ake would certainly be a good acquisition for Spurs but not all supporters are for the idea of luring the player back to the capital.

Here's what fans on Twitter have had to say about a move for Ake.
