Versatile lash out at The Young Offenders in explicit Twitter rant

Dublin rap sensation Versatile have lashed out at comparisons with The Young Offenders in an explicit Twitter rant.

The Ringsend rapper duo sold out Cork's The Marquee back in the summer of 2019 and are just coming off multiple sold-out 3Arena shows in the capital.

However, when a fan compared them to Cork's favourite fictional pair from TV show The Young Offenders - the lads launched into a scathing attack, CorkBeo reports.

Alex "Eskimo Supreme" Sheehan and Casey "Casper" Walsh called the TV characters "young pretenders" before going into more explicit details of what they would do to them.

They ended by telling fans comparing the two to "shut your mouths" - this was only the beginning of the outburst with the rappers aiming shots at more Twitter users after.

This is the second time in a matter of months that the popular artists have been involved in controversy surrounding Ireland's second city after a competition was pulled for tickets to their show by UCC.

The competition was posted on the SU's social media accounts in early November but was soon taken down after student backlash.

A statement from the UCCSU said: "After discussions amongst the Students’ Union team, we’ve decided that we will be ending our Versatile competition immediately.”

"UCC Students’ Union received no monetary gain to run this competition and the sole purpose of this competition was, as previously stated, to provide two students with the opportunity to attend a sold out gig in 3 Arena.”

"From listening to our students, it is clear that the controversial and provocative lyrics and attitudes portrayed by the two performers who make up the rap group Versatile have caused upset amongst many."

The controversial rap group have been heavily criticised for their lyrics and image depicting drug use and class based stereotypes.

The group - which describes themselves as 'inner-city degenerates' - have also drawn criticism for their use of blackface in pictures on their social media accounts.
