Vernon Kay tastes sweet revenge over squirrels in two-year bin battle

Revenge tasted sweet for Vernon Kay after a two-year war with squirrels over his wheelie bin.

The Game of Talents presenter took pleasure in swallowing down squirrel loin during his stint on I’m a Celebrity after his £1.5million home had been plagued by the rubbish-munching rodents.

Vern says he felt vindicated knowing he could have been chomping on a relative of the “beastly” bin culprits.

“The squirrels have eaten our plastic wheelie bin,” he grumbles.

“They’ve gone through the lid to get to the food. For the first lockdown, it was me versus the squirrels.”

Vernon and his wife Tess Daly were driven nuts by a mystery bin thief until they used CCTV monitoring and caught a gang of squirrels in the act.

During the lengthy saga, Vernon got so fed up he even investigated spreading fox urine throughout his garden to deter them, and was forced to “squirrel-proof” his bins by wrapping them in chicken wire.

So squirrel stew went down nicely when the campmates were treated to the delicacy following a trial win.

“The second night of I’m a Celebrity, revenge was sweet as they said, ‘Tonight’s meal, it’s squirrel’,” a triumphant Vernon tells the Fuelling Around podcast.

“I hope the whole squirrel community is sat around their telly watching me devour their brethren, because they’ve ruined my bins.

“There’s garbage all over the garden – so I’m going to chow down, no salt or pepper, just straight in.’”

Fair – and delicious – game.
