Vernon Kay's This Morning replacement confirmed as Eamonn Holmes says he's 'off the bench'

Eamonn Holmes has confirmed that he will be replacing Vernon Kay on This Morning next week.

It comes after Vernon, 47, revealed that he was "gutted" that Covid had ruined his debut on the ITV daytime show from tomorrow.

Host Eamonn, who has been appearing on the programme all summer with wife Ruth Langsford, announced that he would be appearing on the show again alongside Rochelle Humes.

Yet Eamonn seemed happy to be back, joking to followers: "just when u thought you'd got rid of me".

Revealing that both Vernon and Alison Hammond were not able to host as they were off sick, Eamonn said that he was "off the bench".

He tweeted: "But just when u thought you'd got rid of me .... sickness with @AlisonHammond and @vernonkay means I'm off the bench .Get well soon to them but I have my Boots on and I'm ready to play . Monday and Tues line up is now myself and @RochelleHumes. Hope you can join us."

Earlier today, Vernon told The Sun that he is "absolutely gutted" that he's unable to host the show next week.

He told the publication: "I’m absolutely gutted that because of a positive Covid test I’m no longer able to present on This Morning next week with Rochelle nor do Radio 2 guest hosting and Steve Wright’s cover, two iconic shows which I’ve been a fan of for decades."

Vernon had been due to chaperone his teen daughter at Reading Festival this weekend, but it is not known whether he actually ended up going.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, I'm A Celebrity finalist Vernon said: "Phoebe is 16 and her first festival will be Reading.

"It was my first festival, too, and everything that goes on at a festival went on and it was quite daunting. So I'm going with her."

Rochelle had previously opened up about her excitement at presenting This Morning alongside Vernon.

The 32-year-old said: "I’m so looking forward to hosting with the wonderful Alison Hammond again. I also can’t wait to welcome Vernon Kay into the This Morning family!"

Holly and Phil will be returning to This Morning from Monday 6th September, just days before the National Television Awards.

While Holly and co-star Alison Hammond have been nominated for the Best Presenter gong, Phil has been left out.

Instead, they will battle it out against heavyweights Ant and Dec, Piers Morgan and Bradley Walsh.

*This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
