Vernon Davis loves watching George Kittle play

Washington tight end Vernon Davis still keeps an eye on the 49ers. Watching the 49ers it’s impossible to not see their current tight end, George Kittle.

Kittle last year set an NFL record for receiving yards by a tight end. He also puts on a blocking clinic in the run game. He’s in his third year and quickly becoming one of the league’s premier players at his position. Davis told Bonta, Steiny and Guru on 95.7 The Game in San Francisco that he loves watching Kittle.

“Yeah, George Kittle’s phenomenal. I love watching him play,” Davis said. “I follow him quite a bit. We have a platform over here where we can see all the games, so I try to watch all the tight ends around the league to see what they’re doing, especially when we’re playing (their) team.”

While Kittle’s numbers have gone down some this year, his production in facets other than the passing game have shined. Davis was complimentary of the all-around skill set Kittle brings to the 49ers’ offense.

“He brings some great things to the team,” Davis said. “I mean, he can block. He can run routes. He can catch passes. He can do it all, man. He’s one of those players that every team wishes they had. So I applaud him and I just hope that he continues to keep on going and just continues to work on his craft and be as good as he can possibly be.”

Davis is in his 14th season, and he’s been among and around the best tight ends in the league. He was a great blocker on the 49ers’ playoff teams in 2011, 2012 and 2013, and one of the premier receivers at his position. He speaks from a position of authority on tight ends, and his words give further credence to the idea that Kittle is on his way to being the NFL’s best player at his position if he isn’t there already.
