Vernon Davis embarrasses Eagles defense with epic hurdle

Vernon Davis is 35 — ancient for a rugged position like tight end. He’s coming off a season where he made only 25 receptions and rarely looked like the dynamic force he was earlier in his career. He’s only slated to get significant snaps with the Redskins today because usual starter Jordan Reed is out with a concussion.

And yet in the opening moments of the first NFL Sunday of the year, there was Davis literally leaping over an Eagles defender and then shrugging off several others (with ease!) on his way to a touchdown.

This is putrid team tackling from Philadelphia, of course. It seems possible they all became bewildered by 1) the fact that Vernon Davis can still hop over a dude like that and 2) the way poor Ronald Darby delivered his vicious form tackle to … the air.

Anyway, that’s Andrew Sendejo, a safety signed in the offseason, feebly trying to … I’m not even sure how to describe it? I guess he’s trying to push Davis out of bounds. It went poorly.

But still, good for Vernon Davis. Long may he run and leap.
