Vermont Erases Five-Point Deficit in Last Four Seconds in Amazing Comeback Win Over Yale

With 3.8 seconds left, Saturday’s men’s basketball game between Vermont and Yale appeared to be over.

The Bulldogs led the Catamounts, 65–60, with just four seconds left in the game. Then, a sequence of strange events resulted in the craziest finish of the young college basketball season.

Here’s what happened: Catamounts guard Aaron Deloney, the America East’s two-time defending Sixth Man of the Year, raced down the court and scored a layup to cut Yale’s lead to 65–62. On the ensuing inbounds, Bulldogs guard August Mahoney trucked a defender and was called for an offensive foul.

Deloney then inbounded the ball to Vermont guard TJ Long, who put up a desperation three at the buzzer. It went in, and Mahoney was whistled for a foul.

Long made the go-ahead free throw, Yale could do nothing in the last three-tenths of a second and the Catamounts sent the home crowd home happy.

You can watch the unbelievable sequence of events here.
