Verizon Communications' Quarterly Earnings Preview: What You Need to Know

New York-based Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) provides communications, technology, information, and entertainment products and services to consumers, businesses, and governmental entities. Valued at a market cap of $178.4 billion, the company is expected to announce its fiscal Q2 earnings for 2025 before the market opens on Monday, Jul. 21.

Prior to this event, analysts project this telecom services company to report a profit of $1.18 per share, up 2.6% from $1.15 per share in the year-ago quarter. The company has exceeded Wall Street’s bottom-line estimates in each of the last four quarters. Its earnings of $1.19 per share in the previous quarter outpaced the consensus estimates by 3.5%. 

 

For the full year, analysts expect VZ to report EPS of $4.69, up 2.2% from $4.59 in fiscal 2024. Furthermore, its EPS is expected to grow 4.1% year over year to $4.88 in fiscal 2026.

VZ has gained 4.9% over the past 52 weeks, underperforming both the S&P 500 Index's ($SPX) 13.6% return and the Communication Services Select Sector SPDR ETF’s (XLC) 26.7% uptick over the same time frame.

On Apr. 22, shares of VZ closed up marginally after its better-than-expected Q1 earnings release. The company’s operating revenue grew 1.5% year-over-year to $33.5 billion, outpacing the consensus estimates by a slight margin. Moreover, its adjusted EBITDA improved 4% from the prior-year quarter to $12.6 billion and contributed to a 3.5% rise in its adjusted EPS to $1.19, which also topped the forecasted figure. Its adjusted EBITDA margin expanded by 90 basis points from the same period last year. 

Wall Street analysts are moderately optimistic about VZ’s stock, with a "Moderate Buy" rating overall. Among 26 analysts covering the stock, eight recommend "Strong Buy," three suggest “Moderate Buy,” and 15 indicate “Hold.” The mean price target for VZ is $47.22, which indicates a 9.1% potential upside from the current levels.
