Vera star Kenny Doughty's famous girlfriend lands role in another Ann Cleeves drama

Just as Kenny Doughty walks away from Vera, his famous other half Ashley Jenson has started filming on another Ann Cleeves drama.

Last month, DS Aiden Healy actor Kenny panicked fans when he posted series of on-set photos from Vera on Instagram, along with some of his co-stars and captioned them: 'Thank you for the memories.' Kenny didn't elaborate on what exactly he meant by that, as fans started to speculate, before all became clear when he returned to the social media platform a few weeks later to confirm that he had 'handed DS Healy's badge in,' ending his eight year stint as Brenda Blethyn's famous sidekick.

Kenny's announcement, which was followed by the news that fellow cast member Ibinabo Jack has also left Vera, left ITV viewers gutted, with Vera star Riley Jones also saying he 'didn't know where to start,' when it came to drafting a response to the news.

Days after Vera series 13 was confirmed by ITV, Kenny was back on Instagram to tell his many followers that he was in Shetland, quick to clarify that it 'wasn't for a job,' However, while ex Coronation Street star Kenny won't be in front of the camera to film the BBC drama of the same name, his girlfriend Ashley will be.

It was confirmed earlier this year that Extras and Nativity star Ashley had joined the cast of Shetland as DI Ruth Calder following Douglas Henshall's exit.

On landing the role, she said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Shetland as DI Ruth Calder. It’s such a hugely successful show and I am aware I have very big boots to fill since the departure of DI Perez, who was very much loved by fans of the show."

Plenty of Kenny's followers immediately clicked that he was up in Shetland with Ashley, with one commenting: "Aiden working on Shetland would be a smash! Tosh would keep ya in line, now that Jimmy is gone. I’ve always wanted a crossover of the two series." A second replied: "I’m dying to know if you’d ever consider a role in an upcoming series of Shetland! We Vera and Shetland fans would love to see you both together on the show!"
