Vera star Brenda Blethyn promises gift to fans in pub who bet on who the murderer is in each episode

Brenda Blethyn has promised a gift to some loyal Vera fans after one of them made a cheeky request on Twitter.

It was revealed last week that production on the 11th series of the smash hit ITV drama would commence later this year after it was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Classic episodes of the North East-based show have been keeping fans on the edges of their seats on Friday nights over the past few months as ITV have repeated a number of dramas due to a lack of new material.

And one fan, who revealed he's an avid viewer of Vera repeats with his mates at a Peterborough pub, tweeted leading actress and Oscar nominee Brenda to ask for a signed picture to give pride of place above the bar.

He tweeted her to say: "me and some of the guys in the pub stop everything on a Friday night for a takeaway and Vera. Believe it or not we bet on whodunnit. I was wondering if we could get a signed photo to display in the pub. Would be great if we could."

To his surprise, Brenda, who has been playing Vera Stanhope for a decade now, was swift to respond, replying: "Of course. Let me know where to send:."

Vera fans were left furious at the weekend after the no nonsense detective only finished 5th in a countdown of Britain's Favourite Detective.

The public vote was topped by Sherlock Holmes, with John Thaw's famous on-screen alias Inspector Morse in second place.

Vera was also beaten by Poirot and Miss Marple and the result did not sit well with plenty of people at home. One fan tweeted: "Robbed !! Vera will always be my winner," and another reacted: "NO!! Im not having that! #vera is only number 5 - she should have been number 1"
