ITV Vera's Riley Jones shares photo from new series filming as fans work out location

Riley Jones has given Vera fans a stunning snapshot of how filming is going on the new series of the hit drama is going, with many locals guessing the location straight away.

It's been a few months now since series 12 of Vera came to an end on ITV, with millions of viewers kept on tenterhooks by gripping finale The Darkest Evening, which saw DCI Stanhope fall to the floor during one scene, as those watching at home feared for the future of one of the nation's favourite sleuths.

Thankfully, Brenda Blethyn's famous alias escaped unscathed and there was widespread delight in the spring, when ITV confirmed that Vera would be back for another series, with a number of changes to personnel. Kenny Doughty has now left his role as DS Aiden Healy, after eight years as Vera's sidekick, with Ibinabo Jack also leaving as Jac.

The big news for fans is that David Leon is back in the fold as Joe Ashworth makes a shock return and he was spotted on set, alongside Brenda, as filming for the new series got going in Hexham last week.

Last week, the cast and crew of Vera were also spotted filming down by North Shields Fish Quay, in sweltering temperatures and on Monday, Riley posted a photo of another glorious day on set, as the team headed back to Northumberland.

The photo the local actor shared on Twitter featured Vera's iconic Land Rover parked right next to a bridge, which gave away the location for plenty of his followers as Wylam, with the bridge in question being the Points Bridge.

One of his followers swiftly replied: "So happy to see this, Riley you are spoiling us," with another commenting: "Right on my doorstep. It's a beautiful location."

A third told Riley: "What a great picture, looks fabulous. Can't wait to see series 13."
