Vera Pauw to stay on as Ireland manager if women’s team qualify for 2021 European Championship

Vera Pauw will stay on as Ireland manager if the women’s team qualify for the 2021 European Championships.

The FAI announced today that a new deal has been agreed should the team reach the finals.

Pauw took charge of the team last year and is under contract until the end of the current qualifying campaign.

Because of the Covid pandemic, the Euros had to be moved from next summer to July 2022.

Ireland have a one-point lead over Germany at the top of their qualifying group with three games to go - but two of those are against the Germans.

The Girls in Green are away to Germany on September 19, away to Ukraine on October 23) before hosting Germany on December 1.

Pauw said: "There’s a lot of hard work ahead of us with three big games still to play, but it’s a challenge that we will do everything in our power to succeed in.”

And FAI High Performance Director Ruud Dokter said: "We’re delighted to have been able to finalise terms with Vera and get everything agreed so quickly.”
