Vera Lynn to have her image projected onto the White Cliffs of Dover to celebrate her 100th birthday

Vera Lynn, the British singer songwriter, is to have her image projected onto the White Cliffs of Dover to celebrate her 100th birthday.

She is famous for lifting the spirits of soldiers during World War II and is known for the wartime classic, "The White Cliffs of Dover".

Dame Vera will be beamed onto the Cliffs, through the use of cinema projectors during The One Show on BBC1.

The occasion, her 100th birthday, also marks the release of her latest album, Vera Lynn at 100 and makes her the only 100-year-old artist to have released an album.

“It's truly humbling that people still enjoy these songs from so many years ago, reliving the emotions of that time.

“I was after all just doing my job as a singer and it's so wonderful for me to hear my songs again so beautifully presented in a new way,” Dame Vera told the Sunday Express.

Dame Vera was born in 1917 and started her career aged only 15.

In the 1930s she became a popular radio star. She received an OBE in 1969 and a DBE in 1975.
