Vera fans accuse ITV of 'abandoning' drama just two weeks after it returned

ITV have come under fire from Vera fans and been accused of 'abandoning' the hit Sunday night drama midway through its new series.

After a stop and start return to screens last summer, which saw two episodes air before the pause button was pressed on series 11, Vera returned to screens earlier this month, with an audience of close to five million tuning in for its highly anticipated comeback.

New episodes Tyger Tyger and As The Crow Flies, gripped and delighted viewers in equal measure, meaning hopes were high for the rest of series 11 to also deliver the drama, with two episodes still to air.

However, fans of all things DCI Stanhope are now left wondering when their favourite TV detective will be back as Vera was nowhere to be seen on Sunday night.

Those who settled down fully expecting to see Vera after Dancing on Ice finished were left confused and disappointed when The Good Karma Hospital started.

Those watching ITV at 8pm then realised that Vera wouldn't be on later either after a teaser for new thriller Trigger Point went out, telling viewers that would be on at 9pm.

Vera fans certainly weren't backward in coming forward with their opinions on the show being scrapped.

One took to Twitter to fume: "Sunday night and no Vera. What’s happening? Travesty!!!"

Equally annoyed, a second ranted directly at ITV's account, posting: " @ITV where the hell is #Vera?" and another tweeted: " @ITV has done it again. After scrapping a McDonald and Dodds series for new series Grace, now they are ditching fan favourite Vera for newcomer Trigger Point. Shameful, I guess the episodes of Vera will end up in the same black hole as the missing McD&D.....

When asked by ChronicleLive when Vera will be back, ITV told us they had 'no news' on its return at present.
