Vera cast and crew spotted in Morpeth and Amble as filming begins on series 12

The cast and crew of Vera have been spotted in various locations in Northumberland this week as filming gets going on series 12.

While viewers are still waiting to find out how the rest of series 11 pans out, with two episodes still to air; Vera bosses are wasting no time in getting going with the next run of the much loved ITV drama.

It was Ann Cleeves, the author whose books have been adapted for the small screen, who let the cat out of the bag and Brenda Blethyn and her co-stars being back in the North East at the start of this week. On Monday she tweeted: "A beautiful Northumberland morning to welcome team #Vera home. Good luck to @BrendaBlethyn @kennydoughty and all the cast and crew."

Ann's tweet sparked a lot of excitement amongst Vera fans, who started to speculate where they might be headed. And over the last few days, eagle eyed viewers have been taking to Twitter to share where they've spotted the cast and crew.

One fan posed for a photo with Brenda and on screen sidekick Kenny Doughty in Vera's famous Land Rover after seeing filming going on in seaside town Amble. And another fan, Shirley Newlands, got a surprise when they were out shopping and saw scenes being filmed in Morpeth.

She tweeted: "We got up late this morning we then went shopping to Morrison's . When we came out we went to the car park for back Riggs and saw them filming Vera out side the Morpeth Larder but the camera men couldn't tell us when it was going to be on the television."

As the cast and crew moved locations, another fan was surprised to find filming was going on in their workplace. They tweeted: "Vera is unexpectedly filming in our office building today so everything is chaos. If I'd known in advance I'd have tried to get an background part again."

Leading lady Brenda has let slip how the first episode of Vera series 12 starts. The BAFTA winner told Radio Times: "The first (episode) I’ve read is someone found dead on a boat. So there’ll be some nice locations on that one!”
