The Mayo-Galway football qualifier clash is to take place at the LIT Gaelic Grounds in Limerick on Saturday evening.
The unusual choice of venue was brought about as a result of the two counties’ reluctance to toss a coin for home venue and with other grounds in Connacht deemed insufficient to cater for the expected crowd.
There was considerable controversy over Mayo’s 2014 All-Ireland semi-final replay against Kerry taking place in Limerick due to a clash with an American football college game at Croke Park though they have played there twice since, scoring qualifier victories over Cork and Limerick.

A GAA statement outlined: “Efforts to fix the Galway-Mayo game for a Connacht venue were not feasible as there was no agreement between the counties to toss for home advantage, and there was no other Connacht venue deemed capable of catering for the expected interest in the tie.
“Both counties were consulted and agreed to the Limerick venue which has a capacity of 43,000 with 20,000 seats.”
The game will form a double header with the Galway-Mayo Connacht ladies football final replay.
The men’s game throws in at 7pm and will be live on Sky Sports, along with the Cavan-Tyrone tie, which gets underway at 5pm in Clones.
Cork and Laois will also play their round four qualifier at 5pm on Saturday at Semple Stadium.
The remaining football qualifier between Clare and Meath will be live on RTE television and takes place at O’Moore Park on Sunday as a double header with the Laois-Dublin All-Ireland hurling preliminary quarter-final.
The Westmeath-Cork preliminary quarter-final will be played at TEG Cusack Park on Sunday afternoon.
