Venues caught out in SA blitz on QR codes

More than 100 businesses in SA have been caught out over non-compliance with using QR codes. (AAP)

More than 100 businesses across South Australia were not complying with COVID-19 check-in requirements during a seven-day operation by police.

The blitz checked on 846 businesses between January 22 and 28 and found 732 were properly using the QR codes.

Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said although the majority of businesses were doing the right thing, it was disappointing that 114 businesses were non-compliant.

"Police have continued with an education approach to COVID restrictions as we recognise things can change quickly," he said.

"However by now, we expect businesses to understand their requirements when it comes to ensuring people check into their businesses."

Despite the relatively high number of problem venues, police only issued four businesses with $5000 fines with another 19 given official cautions.

QR codes were introduced across South Australia some weeks ago to allow SA Health to more easily conduct contract tracing during a coronavirus outbreak.
