'Venom: The Last Dance' eyes $70 million box office collection ahead of October 25 release

The long-awaited third instalment in Sony's 'Spider-Man' antihero series, 'Venom: The Last Dance' is set to hit theatres on October 25, however, according to box office predictions, it will be off to a rather slow start.

The film which is said to be the last of the Tom Hardy-led franchise, is aiming for a $70 million opening weekend, states a report on Deadline. This projection would mark the lowest debut of the 'Venom' trilogy. Should the film rake in the estimated collection, it would put it behind the original 2018 film's $80.2 million collection and even 2021's 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' which scored an impressive $90 million.

According to reports, industry experts remain hopeful, especially after the disappointing performance of 'Joker: Folie à Deux' which settled for a far lower box office collection than previously predicted.

If 'Venom: The Last Dance' meets expectations, it would secure the second-highest comic-book film opening of 2024, following Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's 'Deadpool & Wolverine' which earned $211.4 million.

Directed by Kelly Marcel, who makes her feature directorial debut after writing the first two films, 'Venom: The Last Dance' continues the franchise's successful run, which has grossed $1.36 billion globally across its first two movies.

The film’s release clashes with the opening of another major studio title, 'Conclave', a critically acclaimed drama from Edward Berger, currently holding a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Meanwhile, according to Comscore, the first 13 days of October have seen box office earnings of just around $209.7 million. Despite films underperforming, this total remains a 4% increase from the same period last year.
