Velvet Buzzsaw trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal stars in new Netflix horror film by Nightcrawler director

Netflix’s new horror film will see a reunion between Nightcrawler director Dan Gilroy and the 2014 film’s stars, Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo.

Velvet Buzzsaw, which will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, is described as “a satirical thriller set in the contemporary art world scene of Los Angeles, where big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price when art collides with commerce.”

Gilroy told Vanity Fair: “Jake plays Morf Vandewalt , who’s a contemporary art critic. And his character is the protagonist who leads us through the film and he takes us deeper and deeper into a mystery that leads to a final shocking realization.”

“Rene plays Rhodora Haze, who started in a punk band in the 70s and now runs the biggest contemporary art gallery in Los Angeles.”

“She was a musician who turned her back away from art to making money and she’s been very good at it.”

The film also stars Zawe Ashton, Natalia Dyer, John Malkovich, Daveed Diggs, Toni Collette and Tom Sturridge.

Velvet Buzzsaw will debut on Netflix on 1 February
