Velio Festival postponed due to pandemic-induced supply chain issues

A festival bringing together music, comedy and sports such as cycling and paddle boarding has been postponed due to supply chain issues caused by the pandemic.

The organisers of the brand new Velio event in Cheshire have announced they are postponing their first festival until next year.

Described as a "combined cycling and multi-art festival", Velio was due to take place in the grounds of Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire between September 17 and 19.

But organisers said on Thursday they have made the "extremely difficult" decision to reschedule after it became apparent that key suppliers were unable to commit to the festival due to ongoing issues with supply chains,

Velio festival will now take place on August 19 to 21 in 2022, and any weekend ticket holders who keep hold of their ticket will be given a £30 credit to spend on food and drink at the event.

A full line up of music and comedy was planned for the festival along with a wellness programme, activities including paddle boarding and wild swimming, and five different cycling routes for beginners to experienced riders.

Sister Sledge and Everything Everything were due to headline the music stage over the course of the weekend, while comedy acts included Jason Manford, Marcus Brigstocke and Shappi Khorsandi.

The festival is the latest in a long list of events that have had to postpone until next year due to ongoing issues caused by the pandemic, despite lockdown restrictions having been lifted, as the Manchester Evening News reports.

Ticket holders have been emailed about the cancellation of this year's event, while a message has also been posted on the festival website.

It reads: "As we approach the final weeks before the festival build is due to begin, we’ve had to make the extremely difficult decision to reschedule Velio Festival to Friday 19th – Sunday 21st August 2022.

"We are gutted to have to reschedule as we know so many of you were looking forward to the event, but it is now not possible to run as we first set out.

"Unfortunately it has become impossible for us to secure the suppliers we need to deliver a combined cycling and multi-art festival in the vision we intended.

"A number of those key suppliers are now unable to commit to the event because of unforeseen and ongoing Covid-19 supply chain issues, many of which were vital to the overall concept.

"As a first year festival it’s incredibly important to us that your experience was not compromised.

"To be unable to deliver the show this year is a huge blow for us after working so hard with an incredible team to make the festival a celebration that we all needed this year.

"We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has bought a ticket so far and shown so much love and support since we launched, the response really has been amazing."

Organisers said people with weekend tickets will be given a £30 credit to use at next year's festival, while those with single day tickets will be given £10 credit if they choose to keep them.

Those who decide not to attend next year's event can either transfer their tickets to a friend or family member, or be given a face-value refund.

Details on next year's line up are yet to be announced.
