There’s no suggestion here of the youngish Swiss trio Vein providing discreet, respectful accompaniment for Liebman, the celebrated, veteran American saxophonist. They hit it off so well that together they became an instant quartet of equals. And the breadth of style they command is truly amazing, from abstract recastings of standards and rhapsodic ballads to free duets between Liebman and each of the trio in turn – pianist Michael Arbenz, his twin brother Florian on drums and bassist Thomas Lähns. Apparently, the whole thing was recorded in a single day, yet it sounds totally relaxed and unforced.
