Vehicles trapped in flooding on Scots road as Storm Francis sweeps across country

Major flooding has closed a road in the south of Scotland as Storm Francis sweeps across the country.

The B724 at Cummertrees, near Annan, is currently inaccessible to traffic.

Police in Dumfries and Galloway are warning drivers to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

In an image shared by local cops, vehicles including a caravan, can be seen stuck in the deluge.

The closure comes as the storm, the second to hit the UK in August,  continues to wreak havoc up and down the country.

A yellow weather warning for flooding has been issued for Scotland which is set to stay in place until 6am on Wednesday.

Up to 90mm of rain is set to fall, with gusts of 70mph have been recorded.

Traffic Scotland has warned of surface water affecting a number of routes and Police Scotland has a travel with caution warning in place.

Met Office forecasters had predicted the 'bands of rain' would 'hang around for most of the day' north of the border.

The alert covers southern Scotland and the central belt, with cites including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth and Stirling in the firing line for stormy weather.
