Vehicles torched in suspected arson attack in Birkenhead

Three cars and a caravan were badly damaged in a suspected arson attack in Birkenhead.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) were called out to reports of vehicles on fire in a car park in the town's industrial area shortly after 5pm yesterday.

Road closures were put in place at the scene in Corporation Road while the fire was extinguished.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a joint investigation is underway with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) following a suspected arson in Birkenhead yesterday, Sunday 16 August.

"At around 5.10pm, police and MFRS were called to Corporation Road at the junction with Pool Street to reports of vehicles alight on a car park.

"Road closures were put in place and the fire was extinguished.

"No injuries were caused but three cars and a caravan were reportedly damaged.

"Enquiries including CCTV are ongoing."
