Vehicles swerve out the way of driver during high speed Coatbridge police chase

A Coatbridge driver narrowly avoided crashes with other vehicles during a high-speed police chase.

John Corrance ignored traffic lights and drove repeatedly on the wrong side of the road.

Corrance, 24, of Cecil Street, was put under supervision for 12 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week for his dangerous actions.

He was also banned from driving for two-and-a-half years and must complete 200 hours of unpaid community work within nine months.

Corrance admitted driving dangerously on various roads between Mossend and Carnbroe on May 23.

He also owned up to using a vehicle without insurance and resisting arrest in Selkirk Way, Coatbridge.

Allegations that he used his phone while driving and was in possession of cocaine were dropped.

Police officers had allegedly seen him on the phone and wanted to stop him.

But the court heard Corrance drove away at speed and his vehicle swerved repeatedly across the road, causing other drivers to swerve.

He failed to give way at junctions, drove the wrong way on a roundabout, went through red lights and careered over a traffic
island.

Officers also spotted him undertaking traffic while driving on the hard shoulder of the A8.
