Chicago police are warning car dealerships in North Austin about a group of men who pretend to be car buyers and take vehicles for “test drives” without ever returning them.

Four of these incidents have been reported between July 20 and Aug. 16 at dealerships in the 1700 and 1800 blocks of North Cicero Avenue, Chicago police said. The thefts all happened in the afternoon hours.

Four men in their 20s and 30s are suspected in the crimes, police said. In two instances, one of them showed an out of state driver’s license.

Anyone with information about these thefts is asked to call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
