Vehicles seized after uninsured drivers stopped in Gateshead and on A1

An Audi A5 was seized on the A1 in the early hours of Monday morning - after its driver was found to be uninsured - say police.

And a Renault was confiscated in Gateshead after its driver was found to have no insurance and an expired provisional licence, say the same officers.

The black Clio attracted the attention of Northumbria Police road safety officers after continually driving around the same housing estate.

At 1.09am on Monday the Northumbria Police Road Safety Twitter account posted: "Driving round & round the same estate time and again in Gateshead is one way to attract attention."

Elsewhere, another uninsured driver faces prosecution in court after he was stopped by police on the A1 on Sunday evening and his car - an Audi A5 - was seized.

Northumbria Police Road Safety tweeted at 12.24am on Monday: "Another uninsured driver stopped on the A1 tonight resulting in his car being seized and a court prosecution pending."
