Vehicle thieves’ gang busted in Bhopal

BHOPAL: Crime branch on Saturday busted a vehicle lifter gang and arrested half a dozen gang members.

Police said, the accused formed a team to lift vehicles and included thieves, a mechanic and a scrap dealer in their team. They specifically targeted two-wheelers and after lifting a vehicle they dismantled it and sold it in parts. The accused were supplying the stolen vehicles scrape to Delhi.

Police seized five stolen vehicles along with a dismantled vehicle total worth Rs 4 lakh from their possession. The accused were taken on police remand from the court and were being further interrogated.

Additional DCP (Crime Branch) Shailendra Singh Chouhan said that the crime branch has formed special teams to control vehicle theft incidents and nab the vehicle lifters. Police received a tip-off from an informer that some suspicious youths were sitting near railway tracks at Govindpura Dussehra Maidan. The informer overheard them discussing stealing a vehicle from Vijay Market in Barkheda. The informer also spotted a bunch of ignition keys in their possession. A team of crime branch rounded up six accused, one of them managed to run away.
