Vehicle fire in Glasgow south side sees Allison Street closed at Victoria Road

A street was shut down after a vehicle caught fire in Glasgow's south side.

Emergency services are currently at the scene of the blaze on Allison Street at its junction with Victoria Road in Govanhill.

Glasgow City Council advised of the incident at 7.50am.

They said: "Due to a Vehicle fire, Allison Street is currently closed at its junction with Victoria Road."

They've since advised the road has reopened.

Detail of the fire is unknown at the moment and Glasgow Live have contacted both Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for more detail.

Victoria Road is a key route between the south side of Glasgow and the city centre and the incident is likely to have caused delays for commuters this morning.

UPDATE: A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5.45 am on Monday, 17 January, 2022, police were called to a van on fire in Westmoreland Street, Govanhill, Glasgow.

"Three other vehicles sustained damage as a result of the fire.

"Enquiries are continuing."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5.29am on Monday, January 17, to reports of a fire affecting a van in Westmoreland Street, Glasgow.

“Operations control immediately mobilised a fire engine to the location and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
