Vehicle crashes into railway bridge in Glasgow's south side as trains are suspended

A vehicle has crashed into a railway bridge in the south side of Glasgow, resulting in train services being suspended.

ScotRail confirmed the news at Muirend this afternoon.

The rail operator say "all lines are currently closed" and services running between Glasgow and Neilston have been disrupted.

ScotRail Tweeted at 2.49pm: "Due to a vehicle colliding with a bridge near #Muirend all lines are currently closed. Services between Glasgow & #Neilston will be cancelled or revised.

"The bridge is a red structure so will need to be examined by our staff, until then we are unable to run trains here."

ScotRail have since confirmed the incident has taken place on Merrylee Road in Cathcart.

Disruption is expected until at least 4pm according to National Rail.

Glasgow Live have contacted Police Scotland and British Transport Police for comment.

UPDATE 3.33pm: ScotRail say: "The response team have examined the bridge and it is now safe to run trains through the area again.

"Services may continue to be delayed/revised whilst we get crew and units back into position."
