Vehicle crashes into front of house in County Durham residential street

A vehicle has crashed into a house in County Durham, causing extensive damage to the front of the property.

Police were called to the scene of the collision in Handley Street, Horden, at about 11.30pm on Saturday, where it is believed a silver Suzuki Grand Vitara 4x4 crashed into the front of the house.

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident but a spokesperson from Durham Constabulary said significant damage was caused to the property and the residents were evacuated.

Pictures on social media show a large hole in the front of the property with a pile of bricks and rubble on the pavement.

The vehicle that was believed to have been connected was found on fire shortly after the incident on East Dene Way in Peterlee.

The Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: "Police received reports of a vehicle colliding with a house on Handley Street, Horden, at around 11.30pm yesterday (Saturday, August 29).

"No occupants or neighbours received any injuries, however significant damage was caused to the property, and residents were evacuated.

"A silver Suzuki Grand Vitara 4x4, believed to be connected with the incident, was located on fire shortly after on East Dene Way, Peterlee."

Officers have launched an investigation and are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Anybody with information relating to the incident is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Cook, of Peterlee CID, on 101, quoting incident number 453 of August 29.
