Vehicle crashes into bridge in Coatbridge suspending train lines

A vehicle has crashed into a bridge in North Lanarkshire forcing the suspension of train lines.

The crash took place between Coatbridge Central station and Whifflet.

It is unknown if there are any injuries at this stage.

Scotrail announced details of the collision and advised travellers to expect disruption to services in the area.

A post on Twitter reads: "Due to a road vehicle colliding with a bridge between Coatbridge Central and Whifflet all lines are closed.

"Our services between Cumbernauld and Dalmuir via Motherwell will be delayed or revised."

Scotrail have since announced the lines have reopened following an inspection by Network Rail Scotland.

Network Rail confirmed the incident was not serious and services have resumed.

A spokesman said: "This was a minor incident with no damage to the bridge. Services have now returned to normal."
