Vehicle breakdown leads to traffic jam on Delhi-Gurugram expressway

GURUGRAM: Massive traffic snarls were reported on the Delhi-Gurugram expressway on Friday evening during the peak office hours.

On late Friday evening, a huge traffic pile-up was reported on the expressway and it took over 30 minutes for the traffic cops to clear the congestion.

According to the cops, the vehicle breakdown on the Delhi side of expressway led to the congestion and consequently caused about 5kms long tailbacks.

The traffic police were prompt to issue alert on Twitter and deploy cops to clear the congestion.

"A hydra machine had broken down on the Delhi side of the highway. This led to congestion on the Delhi side as there are fewer lanes on that side compared to Gurugram. This led to tailbacks. However, the traffic didn't come to a standstill. It was just that vehicular movement had slowed down. The congestion was cleared in 30 minutes," said a senior traffic cop.

The commuters, however, complained that the congestion lasted for over 45 minutes and left many exasperated.

"This particular 2-3 km stretch between Delhi and Gurugram is always a painful ride during peak office hours. Today, the situation was pretty bad. The entire traffic had come to a standstill for more than half an hour," said Sarika, a daily commuter.
