Canberrans were among a select few to be the first to taste a landmark in gastronomy - the IKEA veggie hot dog.
The $1 hot dog debuted on Thursday at three IKEA stores in Sydney and the Canberra one at Majura Park.

A hot dog is a tradition for many at the end of an IKEA shop, but it's only now a veggie alternative has been made available. IKEA says the veggie hot dog contains ingredients such as kale, red lentils, carrots and ginger. The hot dog is served with roasted onions, pickled cabbage and mustard.
IKEA Australia food commercial manager Nicole Kurtz says it wants to promote more plant-based food.
"We believe we have a responsibility and opportunity to serve more food options that are better for both people and the planet", she said.
The veggie hot dog also went on sale at the stores at Tempe, Rhodes and Marsden Park and will be rolled out to other stores in coming months.
