Vegas Watch: Lions -2.5 point underdogs at home in Week 2 vs Chargers

According to BetMGM, The Detroit Lions (0-0-1) are -2.5 point underdogs at home, as they take on the Los Angeles Chargers (1-0) in Week 2. Based on the betting line, the Lions obviously didn’t impress the line setters in the opener after allowing the Cardinals to come back and force a tie.

BetMGM has a lot of various bet lines to wager on in this game, but here’s a look the basic concepts most would be interested in, including the moneyline, points spread, over/under, and Lions Wire editor’s thoughts.

Moneyline

Chargers -139

Lions +115

Spread

Chargers -2.5 (-110)

Lions +2.5 (-110)

Over/Under

Over 46.5 (-129)

Under 46.5 (+105)

Lions Wire editor’s thoughts

The editors are split on this game.

Jeff Risdon made his prediction in his Week 2 Football Meteorology article at RealGM, Calling for the Chargers to cover with a 24-21 victory.

“The Chargers continue to have the injury bug biting them like a cheap hotel bedbug infestation,” Risdon said. “TE Hunter Henry will miss this trip to Detroit, while WR Mike Williams is doubtful. They’re already down Derwin James, and based on his history Joey Bosa might pull something while clipping his toenails. It’s hard to have faith in the Chargers. It’s even harder to have faith in a Lions team that gave away an 18-point 4th quarter lead in Week 1 to the lowly Cardinals because the coaching staff flipped the switch from trying to win to trying not to lose.”

On the other hand, on the latest episode of the Detroit Lions Breakdown podcast, I called for the Lions to get the win at home: 23-21

This matches my pre-regular season game-by-game predictions, where I called for an upset: “Phillip Rivers is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the league but with All-Pro safety Derwin James ruled out and likely no Melvin Gordon, the Chargers are vulnerable. I expect the Lions to be ready to go in the home opener, take advantage and upset a true contender — similar to what happened when the Patriots came to Ford Field last season.”
