Vegas still skeptical on Jags despite offseason improvements

There may be some fans who were high on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ efforts to fix their offense and team in general this offseason, but the oddsmakers in Vegas aren’t buying it. In fact, Bet Online doesn’t even believe they’ll improve their position from last year in the AFC South and currently have them down with 5/1 odds to win it, which is the worst in the division.

All of this comes after the Jags addressed the quarterback position by investing $45 million in guarantees to quarterback Nick Foles and added receiver Chris Conley amongst notables in free-agency. They also were able to add Jawaan Taylor to the offensive line and Josh Oliver to their tight end group through the draft, which was in need of a pure receiving threat. Still, it appears 2018 is fresh on Vegas’ mind and oddsmakers feel the team can’t be trusted after going to the AFC Championship in 2017 and flopping in 2018.

Personally, I think the Jags’ odds could be a bit better to win the AFC South and could make a case for them having the second or third best odds to win the division. Despite the trouble they’ve given the Jags, the Tennessee Titans have a pretty average roster, while the Houston Texans have a suspect offensive line, even after adding Tytus Howard and Max Scharping in the draft. For those reasons, I’m just as skeptical on both teams as I am with the Jags.

One positive to takeaway from Bet Online’s odds is the fact that the Jags were largely viewed as underdogs heading into 2017 — and that worked out perfect for them. That said, maybe fans could take a chance on them this year and come up with some major cash.
