A family-run run shop which sells 100% vegan products including food, clothes and household goods opens today.
A one-stop shop for all things vegan, Alternative Stores, in Avenue Road, Seaton Delaval offers more than just plant-based food and drink.
Father and daughter team Dan and Zahra Strettle certainly know their stuff when it comes to ethical living. Dan has been a full-time vegan for 50 years, while Zahra converted from life-long vegetarianism to veganism 20 years ago. Together, they also run a vegan produce website and online store.
Zahra told ChronicleLive: "We’re an entirely vegan and free-from store and the main products we sell are vegan shoes, clothing, original sosmix, vegan cheese, chilled and frozen goods, meat alternatives, sweets, drinks, milk alternatives, gifts, books, supplements, health foods, organic foods, make-up, health and beauty, eco-living, refills, household goods and more."
Pandemic safety measures will be in place at Alternative Stores, which is located in the Plant Based Valley, a development of vegan businesses which are opening in the former Procter and Gamble site.
There are limits on the number of customers allowed in-store at any one time, with hand sanitiser offered on entry. Staff have been issued with personal protective equipment and the store will be frequently cleaned. Contactless payment is preferred, but cash is accepted.
Alternative Stores will open between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday and between 10am and 4pm on Saturdays. There is free parking outside.
