Vegan's anger after eating meat when she went to Greggs

A woman who says she was served two pork sausage rolls when she asked for vegan ones - as she hasn't eaten meat for two years - is demanding a public apology from Greggs.

Sharleen Ndungu says she suffered heart palpitations and burst into tears after realising she had eaten meat after buying what she thought were vegan rolls from the bakery chain.

Sharleen returned to the store to demand an apology and find out what had gone wrong - and says she was offerered her £2 back.

She refused, and says Greggs then offered her £30 - but she is holding out for an apology, reports KentLive .

said she "burst into tears" after realising she had been served two pork sausage rolls instead of the vegan ones.

Sharleen explained what happened when she ate the rolls. She said:  "I'm carrying on eating and my heart starts beating like madness.

"Heart palpitations like I was running somewhere or something. And then my stomach started turning upside down, I was like 'woah, what's going on, this only happens when I consume meat'."

What is veganism

She added: "My body is poisoned for life now, you know."

Sharleen says a letter of apology is not enough and she wants to raise awareness of the importance of proper food labelling.

"If I was allergic to pork or any of the ingredients that were inside that dirty sausage, I literally could have died," she said.

"Some people, namely meat eaters, might think I'm over exaggerating but I could have died."

A spokesman for Greggs confirmed they are investigating the incident.

They said: "We have apologised to the customer for this incident.

"We are investigating to ensure this situation can be avoided in the future."
