Vegan Made in Chelsea star Lucy Watson makes awkward gaffe on This Morning with Philip Schofield

A former reality TV star caused quite a stir during a TV debate on This Morning.

Vegan Lucy Watson, who appeared in Made In Chelsea, locked horns with farmer Abi Reader when she appeared on the ITV show yesterday (October 16).

When Abi quizzed Lucy on the definition of a 'factory farm', Lucy said: "Where they're enclosed in horrendous conditions and don't see the light of day their whole lives. How do you not know that? You're a farmer."

Yet Abi was quick to point out the cows behind her were standing outside in the daylight, Mirror Online reports.

Lucy's conduct during the exchanges came under scrutiny on social media.

One person asked: "Has the argumentative vegan missed the fact the farmer is stood outside with her cows??"

Another said: "Does she see the cows behind that lady or...?"

But some were more supportive of Lucy's performance, with one person tweeting she did a "great job".

During the programme, Lucy and Philip Schofield debated several points concerning veganism and the treatment of animals.

Lucy said: "Most children are taught to love animals. If they knew they were actually getting brutally slaughtered for us to eat. I think they may be quite shocked. They get their throats slit."

Schofield admitted it was a contentious issue but suggested the word 'brutal' was "emotive".

Lucy's attitude was criticised by some on Twitter.

One viewer said: "The problem with the vegan debate is vegans such as Lucy look down their nose at anyone who thinks differently to them. Educate! Don’t be rude and assume others are stupid. Change your approach otherwise people won’t take you seriously!"

Another added: "I cannot stand vegans, everybody is entitled to their own opinion and diet. Don't force your way onto my life."
